Days after HT City carried a story about stars endorsing hockey but only through words, actress and HT City columnist Priyanka Chopra, who was in Delhi on Friday for an event, decided to delay her flight and watch India play Argentina at the ongoing Hockey World Cup.

“Even though India plays for the 7th or 8th position, it feels great to cheer for her in the stadium,” said the actress. Reacting to criticism about stars not lending as much support to the national game as cricket, Priyanka said, “You can’t compare the two. But we’re moving ahead in giving hockey its due.”

Asked why the celebs who promised to ‘be there’ in the ads, gave the hockey matches a miss, she clarified, “We said we’ll be there but not for every match. If people come only to see us in the stadium, the purpose of the ads would have been defeated. In any case, I was in the US, so I couldn’t attend.”

Having become the youngest winner of the National Award for Best Actress, Priyanka is busy preparing for the National Awards function, to be held in Delhi on March 19. “I haven’t decided on a designer yet. But I’ll wear a saree, it’s most appropriate for the occasion,” said the actress, adding that her “proud” parents and grandmother will attend the ceremony with her.
