When actress Shilpa Shetty grabbed headlines in British tabloids in 2007 for racist remarks made against her on the show

, little did she imagine that, one day, her wedding reception would be hosted at the House of Commons in London and attended by none other than the British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.
Talking about the occasion, held on January 6, Shilpa wrote on her blog, “I was touched by the memorabilia personally signed by PM Gordon Brown given to us as a wedding present.”
The reception was hosted by British MP Keith Vaz, the chairman of Home Affairs Committee, who is a close friend of Shilpa and her husband Raj Kundra.
Still in awe, Shilpa blogged at length about the evening. “When he (Vaz) told us he wanted to do it at the House of Commons, I thought he was joking, but he actually did...”
Wearing a Manish Malhotra sari, Shilpa was stuck in a snowstorm that evening. But she made it to her reception. “Wouldn’t miss it for the world. Nearly frozen (yes, beauty comes with pain) trudging along in the snow, reached the venue,” she wrote. Later in the evening, the Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow and his wife Sally gave Shilpa and Raj a tour of the venue.
got hold of the programme card for the reception, which included pictures from Shilpa’s wedding ceremony, held in India, along with a brief write-up of the couple. The menu listed on the card included a dessert, ‘Shilpa’s Delight’, named after the actress.
