Being a screen hottie has its downside.. as the actress identified with steamy scenes discovered, with the onset of the new year.
From Kolkata, Koena Mitra has made Mumbai her home. Although the Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena heroine still has to score a hit or become a front-ranking heroine, she's much in demand at stage concerts.
While two young women were molested near the J W Marriott Hotel, within hours she had to face a near-similar situation. She has not registered a police complaint but asserts that she can identify the offender if brought before her...
Has there been any police support after reports of your molestation on the NewYear’s eve night?
Honestly I handled the situation when a man grabbed , me after my performance. Since it happened in front of the media, there was no point in denying the incident.
After the news was published, I was told that the cops want to help me find the guy I'm open to the idea as long . as I'm assured that there will be no publicity whatsoever.
I don't want to be photographed going to the cop station and asked about the incident all over again by the media. Once the cops nab the man I will talk and give them credit for it. Since I saw the man from close quarters I've described him to the cops. I can identify him anytime.
<b1>Are you surprised that this could happen to you in this city?
It was quite shocking.. because people in this city are used to seeing stars. Such terrible incidents may happen in other cities. But then, Mumbai is teeming with people from other towns and rural areas. So many men are frustrated because they have never seen a woman in jeans.
And then to see an actress in front of their eyes is too much for them to handle. I've faced mobs but something like this has never happened to me before.
What have you learnt from this incident?
I've realised that we need strict law and order. Those who promise us security should act on their words instead of just talking. There is no denying that our city is becoming unsafe for women.
Are you scared of going out now?
Even with 12 security guards, a man could grab me by the waist. So I'll be more careful when I face the janta again. But I don't have any fears about going out.
Will you perform on New Year's eve ever again?
Of course I will. But after my performance I will never mingle with the crowd. Straight off, I'll take off to party with friends. I don't ever want to go through such a nightmare again.
You have just become a year older.. any resolutions?
(Laughs) No. I'm very shy about my birthdays. My friends drop in to wish me, we just hang out at home.
What's happening to your international project?
I've been working on my British accent for five months. On Friday, I go to Hong Kong for my action training. Their way of working involves sync sound, I've to do all my action myself, there is no concept of doubles.
I have a vertigo problem, so hanging from wires scares me. They have been helping me to overcome my fears. I've shot for the promos of the film in China and Hong Kong.
The film will be shot in seven different countries but not in India. In fact it will have worldwide release but it won't be dubbed in Hindi.
There has been talk that there are bad vibes between Tanushree Dutta and you. Weren't you close friends once?
For your kind information, we still are. The funny thing is that in this business actresses are always believed to be at daggers drawn?
But believe me, two actresses can be buddies. It is our Bengali bonding. Tanushree and I never discuss work. We have been friends for two years now, we have stood by each other through thick and thin. Nothing and no one can cause a rift between us.
There is a constant talk about your plastic surgery.
Look, we're in the year 2008. This rumour has persisted for two years. I'm not interested in issuing clarifications any more.
