If cool gadgets in spy flicks have awed you, here is a chance to check out some and even buy them. An exhibition in the city will be displaying varieties of spy pen cameras, watch cameras and keychain cameras among other security gadgets.
“We import our gadgets from China and they are mostly bought by retailers who sell security equipments. We have been holding this exhibition and sale every year for the past decade and bringing the best new devices,” says Sheikh Altaf, organiser.
Although the equipment for sale comes without any warranty, Altaf maintains they are of high quality and there is a huge demand for them. “A lot of security agencies among other businesses require such devices like these and so we have a good market for them. We’ve never received any complaints regarding faults,” says he.
The cheapest devices available are pen and keychain cameras for Rs 500. The pen camera, masquerading as a humble pen, is used mainly for surveillance purposes.
It holds the lens at a strategic point in the pen cap and allows one to record videos or take pictures with the click of a tiny button on the flat surface of the cap. The average storage capacity of these cameras is about two to eight GB, while there are high-end ones that can store data up to 16 GB.
The sale is also offering a discount of up to 50 per cent on some items. “Our most expensive item on display is the rotating remote spy camera for Rs 3,000. It provides a wide angle recording and is much in demand,” explains Altaf.
The exhibition is on display till June 30 at 44D, ground floor, Manish Market, Palton Road. Call 9930106002.
