Turning tree hugger is fast gaining popularity in the city. And now, eco warriors have got another morale booster in the form of Nurturinggreen.in.

The company has started a Gift-A-Plant venture to turn detractors into believers. On offer are zodiac, medicinal, lucky and stress-buster plants that can brighten not just the homes’ interiors but lives as well.

Another variety of plants is available to be given on anniversaries, celebrations, birthdays and wishing people a speedy recovery.

Christmas"The concept came to mind after I was gifted a Zodiac plant in Austria by a friend," says Annu Grover, 26, managing director of the venture. Then, he thought of bringing the idea to India and help create awareness about the need to go green.

The venture has, till date, seen 20,000 plants in the price range of Rs 350 to Rs 850, being gifted.

Grover believes that changing the mindset is the most important factor in becoming environmentally conscious.

“People who have plants are known to switch their lights off while leaving the room and eventually, become sensitive to nature. So it creates an impact in the long run.”

And those who are interestd don’t have to fret about the choices on offer on the website Nurturinggreen.in allows people to call or send emails with their queries.

Grover says, “The layman may not be aware about what is the appropriate gift. But we can guide them.”

For example, you could give your mother-in-law a lucky plant or opt for a stress-buster for your boss. Also, there are some varieties that signify a sun sign and make for great Zodiac plants.

“All this isn’t a bluff. A 2008 NASA study showed that there are 25 varieties of plants in the world that can reduce stress,” says Grover, adding that people can also inform them to import certain species, like an 80-year-old Bonsai, for gifting purposes.

For the upcoming festive season, the company will also offer Christmas trees that are one to 15 feet long. So, pick up one and make these holidays a joyous affair.
