Actors Chitrangada Singh and Prateik Babbar will be seen in a film on the gold smuggling era of the 60s and 70s. The film, Sufi, is based on a book by the same name by Aabid Surti. Director Aditya Dhar says, “I didn’t choose Sufi, Sufi chose me. From Rohan Sippy giving me its first transcript from Gujarati to English to Aabid Sir believing in me that I will be able to write a screenplay which will do justice with his book..It all just happened.”
“The book has my childhood experiences in Dhongri locality, where I grew up with Iqbaal Rupani, the person who trained Dawood Ibrahim. We both went to the same school, but I while took to writing and he turned to crime. I have seen Dawood Ibrahim play gilli danda as a kid,” says Surti.
