Ever wanted to go for an aromatherapy body massage at a swish spa but were worried that it might burn a big hole in your pocket? Now, website, targeted specifically at college students, is offering deals on everything from spas and restaurants to pubs and adventure sports.

The website, conceptualised when the founders were still earning their degrees, has been online for barely two weeks. “As college students, we were hard on cash but always wished to party on weekends. That’s why we started this to offer the best saving options to young consumers, mainly students,” says 23-year-old Pooja Shah, creative head and founding member. The other partners are young Indian techies based in California and working for companies like Google and Facebook. The 12-day-old website already has 46 partners and a database of about 14,000 people, mostly students, who can't otherwise afford expensive outings. Starting with Mumbai, Groupbachat plans to spread to other cities in the coming months.

Most deals on the website offer a 40 to 80 per cent discount on the original cost price of the services. For example, the current hottest deal on the site includes a two-night, two-day trip to Mahabaleshwar, which costs R 5,000 per couple after a 50 per cent discount. And for spa freaks, there is an offer available for R 595 for services worth R 1,190 at Slender Gender, Andheri. The downside is that you need to keep checking on the deals, as most stay online only for a few days.

Says 21-year-old college student Hrituraj Maitra, who scored a 70 per cent discount on a deal for Orama Krazzy Kingdom, an amusement area in Mulund. “As a student, there’s not much that I can do on weekends, given my budget. I found out about the website from my friends and it’s a good way to save money.”
