Sunburn 2010 artiste roster announced

A foam stage and an open mic are some of the attractions this year.

India’s biggest dance party returns this year. The three-day and night electronica beach party, Sunburn 2010, will be held in Goa, at a beach off Candolim, from December 27 to 29. The dance marathon will include known artistes from the DJ community the world over and the line-up includes 60 booked acts and a few surprises along the way.

Festival director Nikhil Chinappa is looking forward to the many additions this year. “We will be installing a foam stage on the beach to add to the experience of Sunburn. We’re still trying to work out the logistics because we will then need to install showers as well. But what I am most excited about is an open mic of sorts we are hoping to get going on an experimental stage that we are setting up.

The point of the stage is to invite people to come up on stage with their kits and play,” says Chinappa.

Over the past four years, Sunburn has developed into a property that has worked towards pushing Indian electronica and dance music at platforms larger than regular clubs. “We keep trying to open more avenues to spread good and undiscovered electronica music. We are not a booking agency. Our point is not to get DJs from around the world. We want people to be aware of what is really good and we are always pushing young and new talent,” says Chinappa, who says he might play live with a friend. “I never get the chance to play since I am so busy organising everything. But I should play if things go well,” says Chinappa.

This year’s 60-artiste line-up includes Dutch DJ Ferry Corsten, dance music mogul Axewell and platinum-selling DJ BT. Also accompanying them will be John Fleming. “Sunburn’s vision over the coming decade is to become a full-fledged festival where people can camp overnight. There’s a special children’s area for couples who come with their kids to a friendly atmosphere that can pan over three days and nights and spell comfort. I always intended to give India its own festival, which is why I never took on an international format,” says Chinappa.
