Back in 1994, she created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title. And now, Sushmita Sen is set to conquer a new industry–hospitality.
“Within the next three years, I will enter the hospitality business,” she proclaims, adding, “In fact, our flagship venture will be out in the market by that time.”
Last year, the actor turned mentor for young aspirants to the Miss Universe crown, by securing the India rights to the pageant’s franchise under her I Am She organisation. She’s excited about her plans for the upcoming year, saying, “It feels like a second lifetime for me. After winning the Miss Universe title, helping produce more winners from India gives me a great high.”
She reveals that they already have a database of about 1,800 Indian hopefuls. “Honestly, I feel we are only bettering ourselves from when we started last year,” says Sushmita. “We aim to empower women. We have had a lot of beauty queens in the past making lots of promises with people wondering if all of them wanted to be Mother Teresa,” she smiles, adding, “But we make sure that those promises are met. Our winners go on to become brand ambassadors of various causes and that helps raise money for the organisations we work with.”
