We have seen stars taking ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in various ways - fully clad (mostly), without their pants (James Franco), with money instead of water (Charlie Sheen), in a bikini (Gwyneth Paltrow, Katy Perry) and while in a pool (Robert Downey Jr) being a few of them.

But leave it to Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch to take it to a new level. Nominated by fellow British actor Tom Hiddleston, he did the challenge in a suit. And then, in his birthday suit. After that, while astride a bike. He also did one while trying to make his escape in a car.

In all, he was doused with ice-cold water, cubes and all, five times. Six, if you count ice water in his helmet.

The video begins innocently enough. Benedict poses in front of a camera and explains that he is doing this to raise awareness for ALS, which is a form of Motor Neurone Disease. He goes on to say that it can have a devastating effect on people's lives, so people should donate generously.

He says, "Bring on the bucket". While being doused with the water, he lets out a shriek. After that, he reveals his own nominations - Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, pop star Kylie Minogue and F1 champ Lewis Hamilton.

The actor then takes off his clothes and heads to the shower while complaining how cold he is feeling. The camera follows him and that's when he gets his second ice-cold bucket of water.

After that, we see him clad in a suit and talking to Hiddleston, "Yeah Tom, I've done it. I know I was late, I guess that's why they did it to me again in the shower. What do you mean I've got to do it more time because I was nominated more than once?"

And that's when he's doused for the third time.

The camera then cuts to him in biker gear, ready to flee on a motorbike. Only, the helmet contains icy water which he ends up tipping on his head before being splashed by water again.

He next tries to make good his escape on a car but his team gets there first and drenches him.

What's ALS Ice Bucket challenge?

The Ice Bucket Challenge, which involves dousing a bucket of ice water on one's head or donating to the ALS Association in the United States, went viral throughout social media. The one who takes the challenge also has to nominate three more people.

The campaign was launched by the ALS Foundation to raise money and awareness for fighting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis research.

The fundraising effort has raised more than $50 million.
