Actor Preity Zinta, in a letter submitted to police commissioner Rakesh Maria in connection with the molestation case she has lodged against Ness Wadia, has claimed she did not intend to harm the industrialist but had ‘no option’ but to come to the police for her safety.
Zinta, in the letter submitted on June 30, claimed: “I had no intention to harm him [Wadia] in any way by lodging the complaint, but I had no option but to come to the police…for my safety. I am genuinely paranoid that he will try to harm me directly or indirectly in the future.” HT has accessed the letter, the contents of which Wadia’s spokesperson termed as ‘false, baseless and fictitious.’

The Preity-Ness battle began on June 12 after the actor, a co-owner of Kings XI Punjab, filed a police complaint alleging that Wadia, also a co-owner of the team, had publicly abused her and outraged her modesty during an IPL match on May 30. Allegations and counter-allegations have followed and the police are investigating the matter. Wadia has denied all charges.
Zinta, in her recent letter, alleged that Wadia, her former boyfriend, had manhandled her previously too, after which she sustained bruises. On one occasion, the letter alleges, her mother wanted to lodge a police complaint, but she refused, saying she would prefer to break up with the industrialist.
In the letter, she also detailed the alleged abuse she had suffered at the Wankhede Stadium, “twice” during the May 30 match. At the second instance, she told Wadia, “If you don’t leave and stop making a scene, I will slap you,” she claims in the letter.
The actor said she sustained bruises on her right arm after the incident, which she showed to her mother at home. Her mother, the letter claims, suggested that she visit a doctor and get a medical certificate. Zinta’s lawyer claimed to have submitted the medical report to the police.
“I just want him to be kept away from me so I can live in peace,” the letter said, and the actor expressed that she has been shaken by the incident.
