If there is one Bollywood actor who is visibly glowing and growing younger with age, it is Kajol. Even though she was missing from Bollywood for some time, Kajol remained a top choice for many filmmakers for their ambitious projects. Even today, she remains a favourite among cinegoers, because of her gen-next appeal.
As she turns a year older today (August 5), the actor says she will celebrate her big day with a small group of people. “[I am] just planning to spend it with some close friends, and laugh a lot,” she says.
Although busy preparing to make her big comeback with husband Ajay Devgn’s home production, at this point, the bubbly actor is occupied with her birthday plans: “I’ve never planned my life; that’s when I feel I enjoy it the most. Today is going to be so much fun and [there will be] lots of great presents coming my way. It’s going to be great day,” she adds.
That Kajol loves white lilies is common knowledge in the industry. So it's not surprising that her friends and well-wishers make sure they gift her her favourite flower on her birthday.
“It’s the sweetest gesture. The thought behind the gifts count a lot,” she smiles and adds, “[My] best present ever is the fact that all my friends remember my birthday, and make the effort to turn up for the celebration. It makes it all the more special.”
Bollywood actors send out their special wishes for Kajol
Priyanka Chopra: “What can you say about an actor of the calibre of Kajol… Words don’t do justice. To me, she is a torchbearer for my generation of actors…someone who bucked tradition and forged her own path. She is sassy, spunky and speaks her mind. She ignores the naysayers and just lets her talent to speak [for itself]. Even today, she continues to defy boundaries set for women in the industry.”
Varun Dhawan : “I still remember watching her for the first time on screen... There was something different [about her]... a spark, a light, a glow. As time went by and she kept performing I realised that I was watching my generation’s greatest actor on screen and, till today, she inspires artistes (sic).”
Siddharth Malhotra: “ I got a chance to work with Kajol when I was an AD on My Name Is Khan (2010). She is an amazing actress, a thorough professional and a very warm person. I’m a huge fan!”
Aamir Khan: “I wish she would do a film with me. She is one of those few actors who have the ability to make an audience fall in love with her. I love watching her."
Sonam Kapoor : “Kajol has been an inspiration…. She’s the original girl next door… warm, funny and relatable. She is completely comfortable in her skin and that’s what makes her so lovable."
Arjun Kapoor: Everyone remembers her for films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001). But, for me, the most special memory is of the mischief in her eyes when she dances alone while Saif (Ali Khan; co-star) sings ‘Ole ole’ in Yeh Dillagi (1994). I connected with her as an actor for that moment. I can watch her over and over again.
Parineeti Chopra: There are very few actors like Kajol. She is not only brilliantly talented, but also an inspiration for the way she prioritises her family and personal life. She strikes a perfect balance and is a role model for us all.
Shraddha Kapoor: She introduced spice, spunk, fire and feistiness [to the industry]. She can be vulnerable and soft, and at the same time, has the versatility to pull off a negative role like she did in Gupt (1997). I loved her in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) as well.
Kalki Koechlin: I am a huge fan. Kajol has a real sense of acting; she’s very believable on screen. I guess that’s what people relate to.
