Indian actor Om Puri has been part of several international films, including The Reluctant Fundamentalist, East Is East (1999) and Wolf (1994). But for his next, The Hundred Foot Journey, he is contributing to the movie in more than one aspect. The film, which is currently being shot in France, also has some scenes set in Mumbai. And as Puri is well acquainted with neighbourhoods in the city, he is suggesting filming locations to the movie’s team.
A large portion of the film, directed by Lasse Hallstrom, has already been shot in France. And now, the team, including the film’s co-producer Steven Spielberg, will be coming down to India. “Since the backdrop had to be Indian, Spielberg was of the opinion that they should shoot the film at real locations in Mumbai rather than recreating a studio. Puri is contributing to the team by suggesting locations for shooting. The unit will be in Mumbai from November 24,” says the film’s spokesperson.
Since Puri plays an Indian who is living in Paris, the team decided to fly down to the city to give his scenes an Indian flavour. “Puri knows Mumbai inside out and has lived in the city for many years. The team will be shooting on the streets of the city, as well as at locations indoors,” adds the spokesperson.
