Legendary filmmaker Woody Allen may be a force to reckon with in Hollywood, but following an open letter by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow who has accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was seven, his star status seems to have taken a serious hit.

After Dylan’s letter was published over the weekend, the 78-year-old filmmaker became the subject of intense scrutiny online. “Woody Allen’s a predator; many people are simply ok with that. US culture holds rape sacred, as a perk for powerful men (sic),” wrote femme_esq, a Twitter user. Another user, Stella Boonshoft tweeted: “Am just going thru and unfriending everyone who still supports woody allen (sic).”

Allen was in a live-in relationship with Mia Farrow at the time of the alleged sexual assault. Mia and Dylan had first made these allegations in 1993, but Allen was let go after Mia got the custody of her children. But, while Allen was on the receiving end of social media’s wrath, many Hollywood celebs stood by the iconic filmmaker.

Actor Cate Blanchett, who is the leading lady in Allen’s Blue Jasmine, nominated for an Oscar this year, said: “It’s been a long and painful situation for the family and I hope they find some sort of resolution and peace.” TV show host Barbara Walters, too, defended Allen and said, “He (Allen) is a loving and caring father,” on her TV show.”
