Over two months after the last episode of season four of Game of Thrones was aired, the fantasy drama remains the most pirated show on the Internet. It averages no less than 3,00,000 downloads per day.
According to a report from the media analytics firm Semetric, episodes of the show, at their peak, accounted for over half of all illegal TV show downloads on file-sharing sites. Aired in mid-June, the show’s season four finale (The Children) reached two million downloads in just 24 hours. This is a new record for the series, which has claimed the dubious distinction of being the most pirated TV show for two years now.
A worldwide phenomenon, it recently became the most popular show in HBO’s history, surpassing The Sopranos with its 18.4 million fans.
Scheduled to begin lensing this month, the fifth season will air on the cable network in spring 2015.
