“Tell me, do I look or behave like an ill-mannered woman, as I was forever shown in Bigg Boss?” asks model-turned actor Pooja Misrra when she visited HT City to wish the team a happy Diwali. Chirpy and fun to chat with, the popular VJ, who also runs a reiki and tarot centre, says that she is
anything but the ‘angry-young-woman’ as she is often tagged as.
“I am a giver. I believe in touching people’s lives with my positivity. But these people just ganged up against me on that show, continuosly fingering me, needling me, and pushed me against the wall to the extent that I burst out. And then the channel would edit out all the good things I did and would only show my reactions, making me look like a villain!” says Misrra, adding, “I was unceremoniously ousted from the show at 2am in the night just because I nudged Siddharth (her co-contestant in the fifth season of the reality show). And now, I see a similar ‘push’ is being ignored and the person is still inside the house!”
Talking about Salman Khan, Misrra says that Salman does have a role in the decision making of the show. “It’s not that he calls the shots all the time, but yes, he does have a big say,” says Misrra, who’ll next be seen grooving to an item number in Baaja Baja Doonga, a film by Chandra Barot, who directed the 1978 hit Don. “It’s got really sophisticated lyrics, not those regular lewd ones as we see these days,” says Misrra, who’s working on her own TV talk show while also preparing to make her debut in a South Indian films.
Misrra also claims being a trendsetter. “I had started many trends including saying ‘Time Out’ and dressing as a joker, and I saw Imam (Siddique) copying me shamelessly last season! I mean, c’mon, you can’t be trolling me on the same platform!”
Her open letter to Salman Khan
Criticising the differential treatment meted out to the contestants in Bigg Boss by host Salman Khan, Pooja Misrra, who participated in the fifth season of the show, wrote an open letter to Khan in her blog on Thursday. Here are some excerpts:
“...I ain’t gonna press any replay button, I’m only gonna draw some parallels between 2013 and 2011. Same house! Same host! Same show! Television’s some relatively unknown names... ganged up against one principled individual. She was ripped off her suitcase, had to contest with name calling and groupism... Until one day she lost her cool and supposedly pushed a guy violently... Cut to 2013 Small screen’s performers showcase their immense hatred for one unsuspecting victim ... And she fights back with a similar physical altercation. But there exists one MAJOR difference. In the treatment meted out to both women! One was ousted overnight labelled dangerously violent and psycho, one was nominated for eviction yes, but........ C’mon you’ve all seen what transpired this weekend. Need I say more??... You revealed Mr Host that the lady had been so greatly wronged that she was justified in resorting to physical activity in defending her self respect. Why didn’t you speak up for me then?? Or maybe my self respect is of no consequence to you??...”
