After a short hiatus, singer

Adnan Sami

is back with a bang with his new track, ‘Sweeta’, from a recent film starring Ranveer Singh and Parineeti Chopra. While the ‘Kabhi toh nazar milao’ singer is busy receiving accolades for the hit number, every now and then, he admits that he still finds himself fending off rumours regarding his weight loss.

“There are stories about me getting liposuction done. But liposuction is for people who are slightly chubby, not for somebody who weighs 230 kg. To actually squeeze out that fat, I’d need a vacuum cleaner,” says the 41-year-old, before bursting out laughing.

Setting the record straight, he adds, “I did not undergo any weight-loss surgery. It was all thanks to a high-protein diet — no oil, no sugar, and well, lots of will power.” It was about a year ago that Adnan had made headlines for losing over 150 kg.

As a school kid, however, Adnan says he was very fit. “I used to play squash, polo, and I was quite fit until I discovered doughnuts and brownies,” he says, adding, “Gradually, I started putting on weight. Then, one day, the doctors told my dad, ‘Don’t be surprised if six months down the line, you find your son dead in a hotel room.’ That’s when my father said to me, ‘No father should have to bury his son.’ I broke down, and promised him that I will lose weight, and here I am.”

Since his weight loss, Adnan has even received several film offers. “I’m reading two scripts right now, and if all goes well, you’ll see me on the big screen soon,” he says.
