As F1 fever continues to grip the Capital, there is some action in store for style watchers, too. The Indian Grand Prix races, to be held on the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida from October 28 to 30, may get its fair share of glamour with the wives and girlfriends (WAGs) of F1 players.

According to sources, special arrangements are being made at the Jaypee Greens Golf and Spa resort for the WAGs who’ll accompany their sportstar husbands for the event. Though the organisers have their lips pursed, insiders say some of them have already planned their trip.

Lewis Hamilton from the McLaren Mercedes team will be accompanied with his girlfriend and Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, says a source. The 32-year-old has been known to be lucky for her beau as her presence in the stands has seen Hamilton winning many a time. Another speculated guest is Jessica Michibata, who is dating McLaren driver Jenson Button. The fact that she accompanied Button at the recent Singapore Grand Prix has furthered hopes. Ferrari player Felipe Massa’s wife Anna Rafaela Bass, 27, is known to be by her husband’s side during crucial races. Ferrari racer Fernando Alonso’s wife, Spanish singer Raquel del Rosario, 28, and Michael Schumacher’s wife Corrina Betsch, may also make an appearance. “It’d be nice to see the glam girls with the boys,” says Sonny Singh, 19, an F1 fan.

WAGs, what?

The acronym ‘WAG’ stands for wives and girlfriends, and is used to describe the celebrity spouses and love interests of sportstars. The presence of WAGs, mostly style divas, during important sporting events is known to have attracted more fans.
