In this round up of the year gone by, we look at controversies both real and virtual. But what all of them achieved in doing was break the internet.

Shweta Basu Prasad’s arrest

This National Award-winning actor was arrested in Hyderabad for reportedly being involved in a sex racket. She stayed in a rescue home for two months. However, all charges against the former child actor were dropped in court and she later blamed the media for creating a mess in her life.

One of the loudest controversies this year, this nefarious leak saw hackers stealing private images of Hollywood’s female actors and leaking them in a public space. While many high profile victims were involved, nobody defined this flagrant violation better than Jennifer Lawrence. The Hunger Games star said in an interview, "It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime. It is a sexual violation. It’s disgusting. Anybody who looked at those pictures, you’re perpetuating a sexual offense. You should cower with shame."



Deepika Padukone cleavage row

The actor took on a national daily after it published the image of her cleavage on Twitter with the caption ‘OMG: Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show’. Deepika’s rejoinder on the year-old video was, "Yes I am a woman. Yes I have breasts and a cleavage. You got a problem?" The dispute dragged on between the Bollywood actor and the daily even as celebs supported the actor. Her stand started a public debate and Deepika’s final words on the controversy were: "I am standing up for all the women and all the girls… in India and around the world."



Gauahar Khan slapped

The reality star was shooting for a show, surrounded by 250 bouncers, when she was slapped by a man. Her deluded attacker claimed he was teaching Gauahar a "lesson" for wearing short dresses which attracts and corrupts young men. This self styled moral policeman was roughed up by people present on the sets and arrested.



Preity Zinta accuses Ness Wadia of abuse

Preity Zinta left India shocked when she accused her ex-beau Ness Wadia of threatening and abusing her at Wankhede Stadium during an IPL match. The actor later took to social media to explain her stance and why she had no choice but to file a police complaint. She wrote, "The whole point of this was that violent physical or aggressive behaviour should not be tolerated by rich or poor, man or woman, celebrity or not."



Arjun Rampal involved in Hrithik–Sussanne divorce

This supposed fairytale marriage ended last year but it was only in 2014 that Arjun Rampal became an unwilling participant in it. Reports started emerging that he was the reason why things soured between the couple. Arjun’s wife Mehr and Sussanne gave interviews dismissing the rumours soon after.



Yo Yo Honey Singh unwell

Did Honey Singh have a nervous breakdown? Did SRK slap him? All kind of rumours were floating around the ever-controversial Singh after he suddenly vanished from Bollywood. His wife later explained in an interview that Singh was unwell and on bed rest.



Kim Kardashian’s butt

This year, Kim Kardashian felt that leaving things to imagination is a tradition that should be done away with. So, she put herself out there, all greased and shined, butt and all. If that was not enough, she gave us a full frontal too. And, don’t forget that almost anatomically-impossible feat of balancing a wineglass on her backside!



Bill Cosby and Stephen Collins sex scandals

Once again, it turns out that our everyman heroes, those idols we so respected had feet of clay. Cosby, considered a national treasure in the US and respected around the world, had a number of abuse charges filed against him, some of them by victims who were underage at the time of crime. Cosby’s TV shows and stand-up tour was cancelled after the allegations.



Stephen Collins, best remembered for his role in 7th Heaven, is also being investigated for abusing minor girls.



Sony hack attack

A group of hackers, Guardians of Peace, which were later revealed to be from North Korea, leaked several films and confidential mails from top guys at Sony. In the correspondence, actor Angelina Jolie was blasted by producer Scott Rudin as "Minimally talented spoiled brat", Leonardo DiCaprio was called "Despicable" by Sony head, George Clooney termed a case of insomnia with his flops, and the leak of the upcoming James Bond film script. Later, the same group said if James Franco, Seth Rogen-starrer The Interview was released, theatres will be destroyed "9/11 style". The studio decided not to go ahead with the release, attracting criticism including from the US President Barack Obama.
