Round the clock shoots often bring co-actors so close that their on-screen chemistry spills into real life. Here are some recent reel-to-real life couples of small screen.entertainment Updated: May 28, 2011 01:59 IST
They say marriages are made in heaven. But in the times of TV and its 16-hour work schedule, with socialisation almost out of the picture, on-screen romance is spilling onto real life. Increasing number of reel-life couples are finding real life romantic bliss in each other’s arms.
The latest couple to join this group is the lead pair of Star Plus’ soap Maryaada…Lekin Kab Tak — played by Raqesh Bapat and Riddhi Dogra. So, is it just a happy coincidence or does the environment play a role too? Psychologist Priyanka Pande explains, “Long working hours, romantic role playing manifests real feelings over a period of time. Besides, mostly people from this profession can understand demanding work schedules and often they harbour a common goal.”
TV actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande met on the sets of their popular daily show on Zee TV, Pavitra Rishta and love bloomed. Being good dancers, the two even participated in the last season of Sushant even Sony TV’s dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Ja. During one of the episodes, Sushant even surprised Ankita by proposing to her unexpectedly. The proposal left Ankita stunned, but later she accepted it. Ankita was quoted as saying, “Sushant is a romantic and pampers me.”
Raqesh Bapat, who made his big screen debut with Tum Bin in 2001, is playing the lead role of Aditya in Maryaada... Lekin Kab Tak, on Star Plus. Bapat found his soul mate in Riddhi Dogra, his co-actor in the show. Reportedly, the couple got engaged at a private ceremony in Pune on March 2 and plan to marry in November. Raqesh was quoted as saying: “Ridhi and I are getting married and we are excited about it. We are great friends and thought it was time to take to the next phase.”
The couple play lead protagonists on Kitni Mohabbat Hai, airing currently on Imagine TV. While on-screen, the two are seen fighting with each other, but in reality the two are clearly smitten by each other. “Friends always suspected us to be dating. But we started dating much later,” says Karan. A source close to the couple says, “The families of both Karan and Kritika are happy with their union.”
Actors Rashmi Desai and Nandish Sandhu met on the sets of Colors’ popular primetime show Uttaran and dated for a year before secretly tying the knot in Ghaziabad on February 9. Reportedly, the two went to Delhi for an award ceremony where Rashmi was to be felicitated and marriage was not on the agenda. Nandish was quoted saying, "We both were in Delhi. Our parents meet during this trip. That's when the topic of marriage came up. Since my grandmother was very ill, we decided to get married.”
The newly-married couple, who played Ram and Sita in the mythological serial Ramayan on Imagine TV, tied the knot in a private ceremony on February 15. After Ramayan, they were also seen together on the reality show Pati Patni Aur Woh. Gurmeet was quoted as saying: “We are very happy. It’s been a beautiful journey and will be even more beautiful.” Gurmeet gifted Debina a diamond ring as a wedding gift.
