The brutal gangrape in the Capital last month that sent shockwaves across the country, has affected filmmaker Ekta Kapoor so much that she now feels scared to walk alone in Delhi. “I feel insecure, unsafe and scared here.
It should not be that you can’t go out after 8pm in Delhi. I was here two days ago and I stepped out in the evening and saw no one on the streets. It was a curfew,” Ekta told us during her visit to Delhi on Saturday to promote her film Shootout at Wadala, adding, “In such a state how is anyone even going to come and help (if any mishap happens to anyone).”
Asked if her father, yesteryear’s superstar Jeetendra gave her any advice before she was travelling to Delhi, she says, “No, he did not, but he is really shocked and upset at what happened.” Ekta is in fact planning to take up the barbaric incident and the issue of women’s safety through her films. “I have something planned, but I don’t want to talk about it right now because it will look like I am encashing on the situation,” she shares.
However, actor Anil Kapoor, who accompanied Ekta on the promotional tour and enacted an action-packed scene in a mall in Noida, to promote their soon-to-be released film, batted for the Capital.
“Delhi is a fine city, it’s just that certain pockets here need more vigilance and security. If it wasn’t safe, how would millions of people live here,” says the actor. Asked if he worries for the safety of his daughter actor Sonam Kapoor, who is shooting in Delhi for her film, the actor, who is known to have increased the security cover around his daughters, post the Delhi gangrape shares, “My daughters can protect themselves. As far as Sonam shooting in Delhi is concerned, she has an entire unit here with her. I’m not scared.”
