If the glitzy malls and the high-end restaurants don’t excite you to take your Valentine out, here’s a better option. A special Valentine food walk in old Delhi will take place today for those who love food and don’t mind walking a mile for it.

The love cum food walk will take you to the lanes of Dilli 6 and explore places like Khari Baoli — Asia’s biggest spice market, Chawri Bazaar for chaat, the famous old Paranthe Wali Gali, Kake Di Hatti for stuffed naan and Natraj Dahi Bhalla.

Those with a sweet tooth, can relish delicacies at the good old sweet shops of the Walled City. Few places like Giani di Hatti for rabri faluda, Jalebiwala at Dariba Khan, Ghantewala and Annapurna sweet shop. “Old city is food lovers’ paradise. So why not spend some time with your loved one here. We have been getting queries from people and the response has been good so far,” says Himanshu Verma of Red Earth India, the organiser of the walk.

If you are yet to find a partner, you can still take part in the walk as single men and women are also allowed. One needs to register to be a part of the walk and pay Rs 1,000 per person which includes food purchases and the rickshaw fares, for those who do not prefer walking. “We dont expect the participants to pay in advance, anyone who wishes to join can just come and get themselves registered on the spot,” adds Verma.

“It’s a lovely idea. I would love to stay away from the usual stuff and plan a surprise for Valentine’s Day with my girl friend at this walk,” says Rachit Puri, an engineering student.

For the walk in the narrow lanes, the organisers advise the participants to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
