This is one title Oz cricketer Shane Warne must’ve never expected to earn. The spinner predicted that the India-England match at the World Cup will end in a tie, and so it did, making fans crown him the new Paul — the psychic octopus of 2010’s football World Cup.

Seven hours before the match in Bangalore on Sunday, Warne tweeted, “Looking forward to the game between India and England ... My prediction a tie!” After his foretelling bore fruit, he wrote, “Can’t believe my prediction 7/8 hours ago was right - tie!! Classic, didn’t think it would happen but hey-not bad!!!! 2011 - my year! My new career-astrology!!!!”

To avoid match- fixing allegations, he clarified, “Before u think there was something untoward re prediction of a tie, thought it was going to be a cracker-tie was tongue in cheek-but right (sic).”

And, he will keep at it. “Will think of some more for the rest of world cup (sic),” he posted later in the week, creating a flutter. “If I had put money on a tie, the last thing I would do is post about it on Twitter!,” writes Patrick. “Shane has super power,” wrote Sumitt.

VJ Sidharth Bhardwaj says, “You can call him Paul, but then he will have to continue with the success rate. Otherwise it is will be an octopus soup that Warnie won’t like!”

Paul, who?
Paul, the psychic Octopus, shot to fame after its feeding behaviour was used to correctly predict Germany’s matches, and the finals of the FIFA World Cup last year. It died in October.
