Pakistani actor Humaima Malick, 23, is miffed with reports that she is dating former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram. “It is a lie that we are going out. We are close friends and we respect each other. That’s it. I am not dating anybody. If I date him or anyone else, I’ll definitely talk about it,” she says.

The actor, whose film Bol opens in India on Wednesday, says that the rumours also made her cancel her India visit earlier this year. “I was planning to come to India during the IPL to cheer for Kolkata Knight Riders, for which Wasim was the coach, but after all this gossip, I couldn’t bear to come.” She adds that he has a family, and she respects that. “When you hang out with someone, you become close to the person’s family as well. So it’s really bad, the way our relationship is being portrayed. People started calling us. It affected my family and his, too.”

Malick also does not like being compared to Akram’s rumoured ex, actor Sushmita Sen. “Sushmita’s big in her country and I’m big in mine. There’s no comparison.” And, she’s not letting the reports affect the ‘friendship’ she shares with the cricketer. “We hang out and eat out together. We cannot let such stories make a difference to our friendship.”
