Get your rotten eggs ready for March 30. That's when Justin Bieber's Comedy Central roast will be aired. Bieber and Comedy Central have released a 30 second teaser to the event, which promises to be one of the more cathartic hours of TV we might watch this year. Or any year.
In the teaser, The Biebs is seen taking a bunch of eggs to his glistening pecs in super slo-mo, scored to the O Fortuna movement of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. The title card 'come and get it' appears at the end of the short video as Bieber throws an egg back at the camera with swagger and vengeance in his eyes, because that's how he rolls.
Despite the fact that many may have cradled ambitions of chucking eggs (or objects more lethal in nature) at His Biebness, roasts are mostly self-congratulatory. There will probably be some good jokes, but somehow the smugness wafting out of this trailer seems slightly off-putting.
One would have expected any form of Bieber abuse to leave a warm sense of satisfaction in one's soul, but this entire event seems to be part of Bieber's dastardly plan to get some form of respect.
The pop star has fallen face-first in numerous controversies over the past few years: DUI's, assaults, abandoning a monkey in Germany, even pelting eggs at his neighbours house (see what they just did there?). After discussing his past misdemeanors at The Ellen DeGeneres Show recently, he's now staging a grand apology tour.
Some are suggesting the roast might even see Bieber apologizing to his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, who has refused to attend the event, the wise girl.
The roastmaster will be star comedian Kevin Hart and early reports suggest the involvement of veteran roaster Jeff Ross (cue the androgynous jokes) and up-and-comer Hannibal Buress.
