Super sugary chat with Abhi-Ash as they pose for Vogue India in Turkey. Diabetics, watch out! Abhishek and Aishwarya are on his set at Istanbul’s famous Grand Bazaar. Abhishek has been shooting in Turkey for 40 days; Ash arrived a few days ago to visit before she leaves for Paris.
Since she arrived in town, they have managed to spend some quality time together. They ate sushi for lunch by the river at Zuma and went to watch Iron Man 2. “That’s one of our rituals,” Aishwarya says, as we chat in Abhishek’s trailer. “Wherever we are, we always rush to go to the theatre to catch a movie, eat some popcorn.”
“The longest we’ve ever spent apart was a month, right, babe?” Abhishek recalls. “She was in Boston for Pink Panther and I was in Namibia.” “Yes, but usually, we manage to see each other at least every 20 days,” Aishwarya says.
So how do two superstars stay connected worlds apart? Do they use the things the rest of us do in this digital age: BlackBerry Messenger, Skype, phone calls?
“All the above,” Abhishek confirms. “We talk, what 30 or 40 times a day?” Ash says.
That’s impossible, I say. What do you say to each other that often? And how do you ever get any work done? “In between shots, you manage,” Aishwarya says. “The only person she talks to more than me is my mom,” Abhishek feigns hurt. “They’re BFFs. I just learned that, by the way, BFFs.”
“That’s not true,” Ash insists, laughing. “I don’t talk to anyone more than him. That’s just my man talking.” “What’s ‘my man’?” Abhishek jokes. “It makes me sound like a Neanderthal.” “My man,” says Ash. “You’re my man.”
