Four-time World Women Boxing champion MC Mary Kom is happy to be one of the faces of the upcoming Commonwealth Games. But more than that, the 27-year-old is surprised. “
Pata nahi mujhe kyun
, women boxing
mein hai bhi nahi
(I don’t know why they chose me; Boxing is not even on the Games list ),” says Mary. “Probably because that will boost the image of the event,” she reasons.
After making a mark in a game that’s physically brutal and considered ‘manly’, Mary believes that “there’s nothing that a girl can’t do”. “It’s not like men have extra hands or something,” says the Khel Ratna winner, who is now eyeing a gold at the 2012 London Olympics.
Asked what she does when on a break, she says, “Oh, I’m a shopaholic. I just pick up anything that catches my eye.” The mother of two shows off her chic heels that she paired with the Herbalife tracksuit, which she was in town to promote.
An Aamir Khan-Juhi Chawla fan, Mary loves watching action flicks, but feels “funny” when she sees actors engaged in mock fights and stunts. “They are not athletes after all, but some of them still pull it off well on the screen,” she signs off.
