Kate Middleton was pictured sans her most famous engagement ring by the time she left the Royal Marsden hospital in south London recently.
According to People magazine, the 29-year-old Duchess of Cambridge was spotted wearing the 250,000 pounds Garrard ring when she arrived at the hospital for the opening of a new cancer centre, but it vanished by the time she left it, and the only jewellery left on her hand was her plain gold wedding band.
The simple explanation that was given for the missing ring was that the Duchess had put it away in her LK Bennett clutch bag for hygiene reasons on the advice of the hospital staff.
The 29-year-old Duke of Cambridge had also been asked to remove his jacket, roll his sleeves and tuck in his tie for hygiene purposes.
“The plan was always to take it off when she went into the ward in the same way the Duke and palace staff rolled up sleeves and tucked ties into their shirts,” the Daily Mail quoted a palace source as saying.
The source also revealed that the jacket and clutch were left in the care of the hospital staff while the royal couple were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the Oak Centre.
