Alice is leaving Wonderland to give Bollywood a shot for a while.
After making a film on iconic character Quickgun Murugan, director Shashanka Ghosh is on the look out for Alice in Bollywood — he is planning a desi version of Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland. And the top contenders for the role of the flighty, fun-loving Alice are Katrina Kaif, Sonam Kapoor and Soha Ali Khan.
Explaining his reasons
for shortlisting the three actresses, Ghosh says, “[I chose] Katrina for “her doll-like looks. And I’m smitten by Sonam’s child-like smile. Soha is perfect because of her innocent personality.” The Alice he’s looking for must have a child-like charm, he adds.
The script is being written by Delhi-based Samit Basu, writer of the fantasy trilogy The Simoqin Prophecies.
“I asked Samit to write the script because his writing has a lot of allusions, like Lewis Carroll’s, so I knew he would do justice to this film as well,” informs Ghosh.
Alice, in his film, will be a primary school math teacher instead of a lost young girl. Says Ghosh, “It is a conspiracy theory thriller. I will try and keep it as real as possible to connect with the audience.
I will take incidents from the novel and present them in the Indian context. My Alice will deliberately not be sophisticated as she’s going through the pain of splitting up with her boyfriend.” He also adds that he will try to retain the word ‘Alice’ in the title so people can easily connect with the film.
