Known for spoofing a range of current trends and pop culture phenomena, a digital video company has now come up with a parody that questions Indian celebrities who took on the recent Ice Bucket Challenge.
The video, titled ‘Likes likes baby’, has a rap about all the popular personalities who participated. It integrates clips from videos posted by these stars, wherein they are taking on the task.
"What the makers found to be ironical is the fact that these stars participated in this challenge for an American charity, even as many Indians themselves struggle for basic necessities," says a source. The video also features Baba Sehgal’s famous song, Thanda thanda pani.
When contacted, Karl Katgara, creative director of the company, tells us, "We appreciate the good intentions behind the ice bucket fad. That said, we wish people would question and try to understand the truth behind trends before they followed them. With all due respect to the celebrities who risked catching a cold, Indians wasting water in the name of an American charity does not seem terribly smart."
