Last year, some tweets by
left B-Town buzzing with the news of an alleged link-up. But Nargis never entertained the rumours. Back then, she had said she was single, and she insists the relationship status remains the same even today. Here, she tells us why she’s got no time for love, and more.
Are you in a relationship?
I’m single and committed to my work. An actor’s shelf life is short, and I want to make the most of my time. Frankly, I don’t have time for anything else. This job is very hard. I’m learning Hindi, attending dance classes and trying to focus on myself. So I’m not looking at pursuing any relationship right now.
When you were new to the industry, there was a lot of media attention on you. How did you deal with it?
It was awkward and even upsetting at times. I was thrown into this world unprepared; I wasn’t ready. When people used to walk up to me for autographs and photographs, I would feel strange because I wasn’t used to that kind of attention. Then nosy things started being written about me.
What kind of nosy things?
A lot of stuff was made up. It was hard to deal with. It was like someone was invading my privacy. I’m quite shy as a person. It’s a different matter that I don’t come across as that because, when I’m awkward, I make jokes and become funny; and then I talk too much and don’t know what to do.
Is it easier now that people know the ‘real’ you?
Now I understand it (the media attention). I can feel the love I get from my fans now. It has changed my perception. I’ve realised that I have a lot of young fans; I want to inspire and motivate them.
