Zoom.. dhoom! That’s what Prachi Desai has been doing since she was 17. At 20 she doesn’t hesitate to accept that she has missed out on all the fun times. “I’ve been working non-stop for the last three years. I could never hang out with my college friends who I’ve grown up with. At times, I do miss them,” says Desai.

In fact, she couldn’t even sit for her board exams because she was busy shooting for the serial and passed it through correspondence, the following year. But she agrees that there’s nothing like going to college with friends and having loads of masti.

Friends are friends

“Youngsters, today, like to start early. I prefer to be childlike but I can’t; I’ve to behave like a 20-year-old,” she rues. There are even 10-year-olds acting in serials, she says.

She, however, acknowledges that even though she lost out on the canteen addas, she got to make a place for herself in the glam world.

Of late, she has made some friends who’re her age, but Desai is often seen in the company of those years older than her. “I’m aware of it. But what does it matter? Friends are friends, no matter what the age or age gap, isn’t it?” she asks.

She says that her mother sometimes tells her that chhoti Prachi has grown up fast. “But the next moment, I behave like a 20-year-old and she will be like – ‘when will you grow up?’” she says. Her mother, incidentally, is a familiar face around Prachi. In fact, she carries home food on the sets. No outside food for Prachi!

Role call

In her debut film,

Rock On!!,

she was paired with a 35-year-old Farhan Akhtar. And now she’s working with Ajay Devgan, who’s 20 years older than her, in her next film, Once Upon a Time. “Don’t forget, I played a wife and also a mother in

Rock On!!,”

she laughs, adding, “I’m opposite Emran Hashmi, too, in

Once Upon a Time

A mention of Emran Hashmi and how can one not ask if she will be kissed? “Oh my god! The kind of girl I am, I don’t know if I’ll ever do a kissing scene,” she bursts out laughing.

She says that she was misquoted recently in one of her interviews.. and she never said that she was prepared to relax her ‘no-kissing’ rule for Ranbir Kapoor.

Tele talk

No conversation with Prachi is complete without a mention of her mentor Ekta Kapoor. Ask her why she doesn’t tell Ekta to not make young girls look older in her serials and she defends her friend saying that’s what works in serials. “My
