Remember Yuvraaj Parashar? Probably not. Let's refresh your memory.
He's the model-turned-actor who played the lead in Dunno Y... Na Jaane Kyon, touted to be Bollywood's first film on homosexual relationships. Then, he claimed and later retracted, that his director Onir molested him. Well, the film bombed miserably at the box office, but won a few awards here and there.
Parashar, nevertheless, catapulted into the kind of fame that's propelled mostly by controversy and criticism. The Paris Hilton kind of fame.
The actor is back, but this time he pledges his talent to court controversy towards a good cause. The Anna Hazare anti-graft revolution.
"I will strip for Anna. He is like a God to me," Yuvraaj told TNN, "I am totally inspired by Anna Hazare. Woh humein batana chahte hain ki humein apne haq ke liye ladna chahiye (He wants to inspire us to fight for our rights.) And this is why I am giving my support to his cause, totally."
"Anna itne buzurg hone ke baad bhi itna kuch kar rahe hain desh ke liye. He has not eaten food for so many days, aur main jab khana khata hun mujhe sharm aati hain apne aap par. Ek Indian hone ke naate mujhe lagta hain sab ko Anna ko support karna chahiye. (I feel ashamed every time I eat. As Indians, we should support Anna.)," he continues, "It is a reality... we all know that na Anna ko Prime Minister banne ka shauk hain, na unko publicity ka shauk hain. Kahin na kahin unse inspire hoke main yeh stand lena chahta hoon.(We all know neither does Anna want to become the PM nor is he looking for publicity. Somewhere I'm inspired to take a stand like him.)"
But why strip? Is it because he's comfortable with his body becasue of all the nude scenes in his 2010 film? Parashar has a more concrete reason.
"Yes I did say I will strip, but only if they fail to understand the problem. I said it because I know for sure that in this country, if you have to do something, you have to take up a strong step."
Yuvraaj says, "Mera intention strip karne ka nahi hain, mera intention kapre utarne ka nahi hain, mera intention cheezo ko sahi karne ka hain. Maine kaha hain ki strip karunga agar unhone woh kaam complete nahi kiya toh.(My intention is not to strip or take off my clothes for no reason. My intention is to do the right thing. I will strip if what Anna wants doesn't happen.)"
Well, here's wishing him luck, but more importantly has he expressed his solidarity to Anna in person? "I haven't been able to go to Azad Maidan. But If I get a chance then will try to visit."
