The passengers on the Mumbai-Chandigarh Kingfisher flight IT 3185 on Wednesday afternoon had no idea that World Cup hero worship would be taken to a different level altogether.

The flight, which was to take off at 1pm was still on the tarmac at 1.45pm and passengers had no clue of the reason behind the delay. It was only after they saw cricketer Yuvraj Singh walk into the aisle that they realised what was going on. “Yuvraj was the last person to board the flight. We heard the crew discussing that the flight was being made to wait for him,” said a crew member of the movie Faltu, who had to attend a press conference in Chandigarh at 2.30pm. Because of the delay, journalists walked out of the event.

The airlines’ VP corporate communications, Prakash Mirpuri, confirmed that Yuvraj was the last to board, but said, “The delay was due to a bird hit, and one of our aircrafts got delayed in Lucknow.” Yuvraj, who was flying to meet his guru in Fatehgarh Sahib, also denied, “I was at the airport an hour before time.”
