According to a report on a top tech blog, Microsoft is set to release a web app version of its digital music streaming service Xbox Music "next week."

The report appeared June 25 on tech blog The Verge, which cited "sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox Music plans." According to the report, the digital music streaming service, which offers both ad-supported and subscription-based streaming options, will launch the web apps "next week" (no exact date is provided) at

The addition of web apps would enable users of the service to stream music and manage playlists via their browser outside of an Xbox console or Windows 8 device.

Previously, Xbox Music, which offers a service akin to streaming sites such as Spotify but only through Microsoft's own products, launched on the Xbox 360, Windows 8 desktop and Windows 8 mobile platforms.

There is a chance that the service could be revealed at Microsoft's developers conference, known as Build, which begins at 9am local time on June 26 in San Francisco, California, and runs until June 28.

Microsoft will also be previewing its updated Windows 8 OS, known as Windows 8.1 "Blue," for desktop and mobile services at the conference before the full OS becomes available to the general public later this year.

A preview version of the OS is expected to be available by June 26, following the keynote speeches, to those running a Windows 8 machine, and with a Windows ID, at
