A look at Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s hits and misses on the Cannes red carpet
For her first appearance, Aishwarya wore a yellow sari and gold jewellery. It was to promote her film Devdas that she chose this traditional attire which was highly criticised.
A catastrophe had struck Aishwarya’s fashion sense, twice in a row, clearly a newbie at such events, when she made a ghastly appearance in a green ethnic drape.
After last year’s sartorial disaster, she bid goodbye to saris and gave way to a revealing gown, but her efforts went in vain as the critics didn’t appreciate the change.
After three years of disappointing the fashion police, the former Miss World stunned everyone with a beautiful printed dress by Giorgio Armani.
Ash’s 2006 appearance got another thumbs up from both the fashion critics and fans. Dressed in a navy-blue gown, she rocked the look with a signature snake-shaped neck-piece.
This year, after her marriage to Abhishek Bachchan, she sported a gorgeous white gown. Ash was appreciated for her dress and for accessorising it with shining diamonds.
This year, the actor swept the Cannes floor with a bold plunging neck-line and got appreciated for her evolved style maturity.
In 2009, Aishwarya was again applauded by the fashion police of the world for a hot yet elegant look as the actor sported a Roberto Cavalli frilly gown.
This time she was promoting Raavan at Cannes. She opted for a black strapless Armani Prive gown and she added a dash of colour with her red lipstick
Now, a red-carpet veteran, Aishwarya, stunned one and all with an elegant Elie Saab one shoulder embroidered gown.
Last year, Ash’s weight gain was talked about around the world. The new mommy silenced the critics with her confidence, but her Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla look didn’t get a great response.
This year, Ash won applause from the fashion pundits by taking the Indian route and wearing a floor-length anarkali by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
