Indian designers are not just inspired by west. Lately, our very own small cities are driving their fashion sense. Anupamaa’s Surat n Spice collection on Day One of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week is one such example.
Pyjamas and shararas in playful prints was the USP of her collection. “We should drop these blue jeans for a coule of seasons and have fun with shararas. They are easy to wear, fun and sexy,” said the designer.
Anupamaa on her collection: “This collection is called Surat n Spice. It’s completely devoted to my love for Indian textiles and an attempt to see it from an outsider’s point of view. I have tried to see it from a westerner’s point of view. How an English man walking in Surat see our colours- will he think we are mad or will he get blinded by our magical beauty.”
“It’s a mix of palampores, coramandels and machilapatnams. I have tried to infuse a lot of modern touches- there are track pants, sports shoes with lehengas, and it’s all wearable. This is my fall-winter collection, fall-winter that the west wants from a designer like me from India. We use lot of golds, lot of layering. Chinese and Vietnamese tunics are also there,” she added.
