After signing a Rs 5 crore deal for endorsing a saree brand, Vidya Balan would now love to be the brand ambassador of Banarasi sarees. “I love the sari more than any other dress. And if by wearing it, I can bring it back in fashion, why not?” she said.

The actor was visiting Lusa village in Mirzapur as part of the Nihar Naturals initiative to promote literacy when HT City caught up with her.

But it’s not just the Banarasi saree that she had set her eyes on. Vidya was also looking for Banarasi cotton. “Someone told me about the wonderful cotton that you get here. I’m planning to go shopping after I go back to Varanasi,” she said.
Asked who is the number one heroine in Bollywood, the actor, who won accolades for her hat ke roles in The Dirty Picture and Kahaani, said she had a different view on the issue. “I don’t believe in numbers. Everyone is working hard. Why limit them to numbers.”

The actor, who is looking forward to her forthcoming flick Ghanchakkar, says she likes to do one movie at a time. “I have just finished a major part of the shooting of Ghanchakkar with Emran Hashmi. Next in line is Raj Kumar Gupta’s Shaadi Ke Side Effects that goes to floors next year.” Refusing to share more details, she said, “All stories end with shaadi. This one begins after shaadi!”

And when does she plan to get married? “Not in the near future. And when I do, you will certainly know,” she said with a wink.
