Game’s up for film stars in fashion. The upcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, to be held from April 6-10 in Delhi, is set to be a no-star show. Twenty eight of the top 30 participating designers confirm that no Bollywood biggies will walk the ramp for them, citing the serious-fashion-over-celeb-presence logic.

A few days ago, designer Manish Malhotra tweeted, “Having a showstopper at fashion week is not a trend any more.” Others from the fashion frat re-tweeted his statement in solidarity, and are determined in their decision to keep the filmy drama out. “Fashion shows are meant to be about fashion and not Bollywood entertainment”, says Delhi-based designer Gaurav Jai Mehta.

FashionMumbai-based designer Anita Dongre says, "The trend puts a lot of pressure on young designers." A major reason behind the unsaid ban is that the clan feels that Bollywood does nothing to boost business even if it gets more eyeballs. "No buyer will book any collection just because Aishwarya Rai walked the ramp. It’s ultimately only about the clothes and creativity," says designer Zubair Kirmani. Ritika of designer duo Gaurav and Ritika feels, "purists always remember a show for its designs, and not for the star that walked at the show."
