At the SS’11 New York Fashion Week concluded sometime back, the runway was taken over by models of all shapes and sizes.
OneStopPlus.com — an online shopping portal especially catering to full-figured women — had Lizzie Miller, the woman credited with kickstarting this love for curves. At the Milan Fashion Week that started on September 22, designer Elena Miro showed a collection of frocks for plus-sized women. Her voluptuous models took to the catwalk, flaunting their full figures, ample breasts and thighs.
“Now it seems curves are back for good. Even Victoria Beckham, who is famous for her stick-thin figure, also stated during her show at NYFW that she wants to celebrate a woman’s curves,” Varun Rana, associate fashion features editor at Harper’s Bazaar India says. “Because of the recession, there has been a big shift in the fashion industry to an easier glamour, a more real fashion scene. And easier glamour doesn’t discriminate against real women or sizes,” Rana adds.
