As the French first lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy arrives in India on a state visit; fashion watchers can’t help but notice her style. Bruni, who has become famous for her iconic fashion sense, has a classic Parisian chic style. Designer Nida Mahmood says, “Carla is an extremely stylish woman. She is extremely malleable in terms of carrying a look with elan.” Designer Sanchita Ajjampur says, “Bruni’s outfits are always diplomatically correct and on-trend.” As all eyes are set on Bruni's wardrobe for the visit, we get some Indian designers to sketch an outfit that they think aptly befits the French first lady’s style.
The tailored bandhgala jacket
Designer Raghavendra Rathore says, “Carla is high on style and I have tried to retain her chic sense by sketching a bandgala jacket — a perfect mix of traditional and contemporary style. The tight fitting jacket with the slim fitted pants, will suit her. I have cropped the sleeves of the jacket to include the bangles to give her style an Indian touch. The collars of the jacket are also kept high with a plunging neckline. The idea was to give her a cut wherein, she can adjust the neckline depending on the occasion. The jacket has brass buttons to retain the Indian element. A little hint of ethnic embroidery on the jacket will also be an interesting twist.”
The classic chic long gown
Designer Payal Jain says, “I think this structured long gown with a tailored finish will suit Carla’s style. The look of this long burgundy silk velvet gown is seductive, sensual, vibrant and regal. The silhouette is immaculately draped and sculpted to enhance her slender and well-proportioned body. The colour compliments her looks and the warm tone will enhance her skin tone. She has a personality that is elegant, charismatic and sensual. The best part is that Bruni also has a very slender and toned body, with which she can carry even the most body-hugging dress with elan. Being a well-known international model for many years, she will rock the look in this style.
Designer Swapnil Shinde says, " I think Carla Bruni has the style and aplomb to carry off the rose pink short dress dress; the colour is a perfect choice for her as it will enhance her rosy glow. I have also given the short dress a sari drape on the shoulder to bring in that magic of an Indo-western fusion. The dress is a perfect amalgamation of a seductive short dress and the sensuous sari drape. The drape is inspired from the sari and there is also a pleated style on the waist. The pleats not only remind us of the sari, but are also perfect to give the dress a cinched at the waist effect. The off-shoulder style will look good on her as she has the body and the poise. "
