Fashion week ended on a note of high drama and a clash of egos even as rohit bal wowedfashion and trends Updated: Oct 29, 2009 21:31 IST
Designer Rohit Bal’s Grand Finale show at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week on Wednesday night had all the drama, pomp and ceremony of a grand Bal event ... including a grand clash of egos. Bollywood stars Arjun Rampal and Dino Morea were replaced as showstoppers by Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor at the last minute, causing some backstage drama and the show to start 90 minutes late.
The show itself had the celeb audience shouting their approval as models strutted Bal’s larger than life creations. However, just minutes earlier Bal’s favourite models, Arjun Rampal and Dino Morea, were taken off the programme.
A model, who witnessed the drama revealed, “Arjun wanted to be the showstopper but the agency that represents Katrina, was adamant that only she and her Ajab Prem ki Gajab Kahani co-star, Ranbir Kapoor, will walk the ramp.”
According to a wardrobe assistant, “Arjun and Dino were all set to walk the ramp. They even did their trials, but then Arjun had some argument and didn’t come to the green room. Rohit suggested that all four stars walk together, but neither Arjun nor the agency people agreed to that.” Dino and Arjun left fuming. “Arjun thought that he is the biggest star amongst the four,” said another model.
When contacted, Arjun said, “I was supposed to be the showstopper for Gudda [Bal], but when I reached Delhi, he told me that Ranbir and Katrina would be the showstoppers because of some monetary tie-up. Gudda said things had gone out of his hands and himself asked me not to walk the ramp because it didn’t make sense if I was not the showstopper.”
At the post-show party too, Dino and Arjun seemed upset and left early. However Arjun clarified, “There was no fight with either Katrina or Ranbir. They were both partying at my club till 4 am.”
Bal brushed the incident aside, saying, “We’ve all had a hard week, so let’s just party.”
