Dressing to the tee: Here’s how you can ace the T-shirt dress trend this summer
T-shirt dresses make for comfortable summer dressing, and they are high on the style quotient too. Take a cue from Bollywood celebrities and add these dresses to your wardrobe.
Summer calls for easy-breezy, comfort dressing and these Bollywood divas show us how. Actors like Richa Chadha, Sonal Chauhan and Yami Gautam have been making a casual statement with their T-shirt dresses and you can too. What’s more? They are your perfect travel companions. “When you are travelling, you don’t want to wear anything which is difficult,” says designer Nida Mahmood, adding, “Moreover, normcore is our coolest trend, every segment of fashion is following it.” Normcore includes dressing up in an understated, ‘normal’ way to make a statement.
Designer Nikhita Tandon, says, “It’s quite cool. You can’t always be wearing tracksuits or jeans when you are in a long haul flight.” Travel today is about marrying style with comfort, says designer Nachiket Barve. “I think this falls very well within those parametres,” he adds.
Any tips for styling the dress? “It’s best to wear it with flat shoes, like sketchers. You can pair it with a waist-length jacket and boots,” says Tandon. Nida’s advice is to style it with accessories like a neckpiece or a backpack. “It will be nice to wear a shirt collar as a neckpiece that can be buttoned on the front. It adds value to a basic silhouette.”
But there are a few pointers to keep in mind while opting to dress like this.”There shouldn’t be very stark colour-blocking within the dress. The print should not be too busy,” says Nida.
Barve, says, “What it needs is to not make it look hyper casual. The right kind of accessories are important. A statement heel can add a little bit of edge to the look. It makes it look polished as opposed to pyajama dressing. A nice liner and a top knot can really turn it into dressing up.”
And of course, there is some Vlogger inspiration to the rescue if you plan to tailor a T-shirt dress at home.
