Eat like a model

Ramp walkers reveal what helps them stay fit during fashion week and the days before. Read on to know how these models look so stunning.

Models may be blessed with skinny frames but they’re not really starving to get there. Contrary to popular belief, most ramp walkers have voracious appetites, the only difference being that they’re careful about what they eat.



Ramp model and VJ Gailyn Mendonca (21) says, “Since the food usually comes from a caterer, they keep in mind that we can’t eat anything oily or heavy. We’re usually served light soups or salads and lots of continental fare.”

Mendonca also adds that while some models are fanatic about their diets, many throw caution to the wind and eat regular meals. “The job revolves around the way you look. Most avoid oily food because they don’t want their skin to break out during fashion week. And sleeping in time always helps.”



Model Krishna Somani cuts out rice from her diet while model Diandra Soares avoids food with too much salt prior to fashion week. But both agree that nothing will change drastically at short notice. “You need to be consistent,” cautions Somani, while Soares adds, “Aerated drinks and coffee have never been part of my diet. If you try crash dieting, you’ll end up being irritable.”



Model-turned-choreographer Lubna Adams says that while people think models are fussy about their eating habits, Indian models are healthy eaters. “Since they’re served a large variety of food, from salads and pastas to meats and desserts, everyone can choose what suits their body,” she says.



“I’ve seen most carry healthy snacks such as soya

chaklis

and baked stuff that keeps them energetic. Also, most models find time to hit the gym even between shows. They’re also aware of what food is good for them and what isn’t.”
