Travelling is soothing for the soul, but strenuous for your skin. Erratic timings, jet lag and extreme climatic conditions can wreak havoc on the hair and skin. Despite this, if you want to look striking in the pictures, here are some makeup essentials, depending upon the climate of the country of your choice.
Always carry cleansing wipes, sunscreen, moisturiser, sanitiser, cotton swabs and face wash.
Refrain from applying nail polish while travelling, as you may not have the time to do the touch ups and wouldn’t want to flaunt nails with worn off polish. Stick to a basic French manicure.
If your destination is a hot country, carry these — purifying cleanser, toner, sun protection (oil free or gel based), soothing night cream, matt foundations (keeps the skin dry and absorbs sweat), pressed powders (cream based products will melt and leave you looking drab), waterproof multipurpose pigments that can be used as eye shadows, blusher or lipsticks, products with cooling properties like mint, cucumber, papaya, camomile, orange, lemon extracts and hair products with sun protection.
In humid areas, makeup must be kept minimal. Use aloe vera to soothe the skin and even out foundation (non-greasy). Refrain from gloss and shimmer and use longstay matt lipsticks.
Cool, winter locales allow more use of makeup. Use a pre-base to hold the foundation (cream based) in place. Carry cream based facial cleanser, moisturiser (must before makeup), sun protection, hand cream, body lotion, lip balm, moisture rich lipstick and hair protection. Cream based blush on and eye shadows can also be used.
In a rainy area, only use waterproof foundation. Thinner the foundation, more will the skin be able to breathe. All your products in your kit must be waterproof. Leave at home any extra shimmer or bronzer as they do not stay on in a rainy season.
If you are going to a beach for holiday, protection from the sun is of prime importance. Mix foundation with a sunscreen to ensure complete sun protection. On a fresh water beach, you can drop the sun protection and use a waterproof foundation.
