If auto giants from across the world going full throttle with their snazziest launches wasn’t enough to grab your attention, the fashion brigade is also making its presence felt at the ongoing Auto Expo.

From aspiring designers to biggies like Manish Arora, everyone is going top gear to dress up the models manning the cars at various pavilions. “We don’t want to compromise on anything, not even the uniforms of our employess,” says Sunil Gate, Corp Comm Head of Skoda, which has on board designer Narendra Kumar.

While it’s a great branding for the car makers, the designers too are upbeat. “Designing for cars widens your horizon,” says Kumar. Local designers are also joining in. Namita and Sumit Cambow, for instance, have designed for Maruti Suzuki. “They wanted the designs to be chic and powerful,” says Namita, who also designed for Volkswagen and Hyundai.

While Kumar has kept in mind the SUV’s qualities in his design, Manish Arora has gone flashy with vibrant colours for Audi. And amidst all of this, the happiest are the models, mostly students working part-time. “You don’t get to wear the designs of such big designers everyday,” says one.
