Highlight Story

With a scintillating presentation of a collection that was beautifully made, designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla brought a truly fashionable end to the first ever Delhi Couture Week, organised by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).

Abu-Sandeep did a show in Delhi after a gap of five years and the guests just loved what they had to offer. Exquisitely embroidered creations in white and gold, Indian and western silhouettes, and the elegant and beautiful Shweta Bachchan Nanda as the show stopper… they couldn’t have asked for a better finale.

The other showing during the day was that of Raakesh Agarvwal’s followed by Rina Dhaka. While Raakesh chose to do a brighter collection with heavier surface detailing, Rina’s decision to stick to sober hues with shiny surface detailings proved to be more stylish. Raakesh’s use of heavier crystals in dangling forms could have been avoided as some of them were seen falling off the garments as models walked.

Abu janiThe designer also chose to have a plain, normal backdrop as opposed to other designers who had elaborate settings (as one would expect in a couture presentation) for their shows. Rina, on the other hand, had a collection that spelt style that sparkled. Silhouettes mostly stayed close to the body for Rina while it was somewhat away for Raakesh.

The Delhi Couture Week, even when it was FDCI’s first attempt, was interesting. An excellent choice of designers, a team of excellent production professionals and a nice venue in The Grand, which has very courteous staff, made the event truly memorable. With FDCI president Sunil Sethi taking the initiative to host this event for the first time in the Capital, the fashion scene here has come full circle.
