It’s the first day of college and the first year students shouldn’t make a wrong impression. HT City gets you tips from young fashion designers on how you can dress for a lasting impact.
“Girls shouldn’t consider jeans as the only casual attire. Make a statement by sporting printed knee-length skirts and jumpsuits,” says designer Nikhita Tandon.
Other causal options include Bermuda-length shorts that can be teamed up with checked shirts. Nida Mahmood suggests, “Take a white tee, shirt or kurta and draw all over it. It will be your style statement. Else, paint your hands and slap over the shirt.
You could even scribble all over them with interesting quotations or just anything that’s on your mind.”No stripes for boys
"Wear statement T-shirts that speak your attitude. If you can’t find one, make one," says Nida Mahmood. Tandon says, "Striped shirts are for Dads, not college boys. Steer clear of those and experiment with your colours. Go for lemon green, pink and light blue, they are summer colours and just right for the college boys."
“Experiment with jute bags that have big sunflowers on it. Make a flower and paste on the bag. Wear antique-looking necklaces with plain tees. Cocktail rings and hoops are a no-no,” says Tandon.
“Bright coloured gladiators with moulded material are perfect for the season and experiment with your umbrella. Go for neon colours like fuchsia,” says Mahmood.
