Sameera-Reddy-looks-like-a-million-bucks

Sheer is a big trend this summer. And if you’re daring enough, you could wear it the way Bollywood beauties such as Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy have been flaunting it — wearing a bra under a sheer shirt or top.

Though it has been regarded as a style statement in Hollywood, with stars such as Jessica Alba, Kaite Holmes and Rihanna often being spotted with a sheer top over a bra, the trend has finally come home. It is a tad risky trend though, and needs some caution. Designer Raghavendra Rathore say, "Tops and dresses in sheer fabric look great in the summer. However, putting such a look together may not be as easy as it looks."

BipsHow to get it right

Here’s what you must keep in mind before you can pull off this look. "Sheer is one of the biggest and the most feminine prêt-a-porter trends for this season. It should come across as fresh, flirty and fun, and not pretentiously sexy. It looks nice to team up sheer tops with high-waisted bottoms, skirts, shorts or relaxed trousers, and you must find the right bra to wear under your top," says designer Shantanu Mehra. "Avoid a lacy bra, as it seems if you’re trying too hard to create a style statement," says designer Jyoti Sharma.

Designer Mayyur Girothra says, “Make sure that the bra you choose is of the right size, quality and colour. While choosing the colour of the bra with a sheer top, keep in mind that they both blend well.” Don’t wear a bright coloured bra with light coloured sheer tops. Choose something closer to your skin tone. “A nude bra is the safest bet with white or off white tops. If you’re wearing a sheer shirt in bright colour, a black bra would look great. With printed sheer tops, choose a bra that goes with the prime colour in your shirt, like a red printed top with a red bra, and black with black,” says fashion stylist Aakanksha Jain.
