Lakme celebrated its decade-long association with fashion week last season with a celebrity loaded show ‘Mai Mumbai’. This season too, Lakme Fashion Week is holding a mega show to mark the completion of 10 years of this partnership — ‘Lakme and IMG celebrate 10 years of Fashion’ — on the opening day of LFW on September 18.
Speaking exclusively to HT City, Anil Chopra, advisor Lakme said, “The grand show looks into the evolving fashion industry. It’s a journey from ‘Then’ to ‘Now’ culminating into ‘Forever’.”
The unique show will bring alive the evolution of Indian fashion over the decade. Explaining the concept, Chopra said, “Participating in the show are 20 Lakmé Grand Finale designers from the past decade. Each designer will walk us through the ‘Then’ aesthetic in an audio-visual, introducing their Lakme Grand Finale collections of the past season. The journey continues with two looks depicting the designer’s evolution from ‘Then’ to ‘Now’. Finally, the designer will present his or her vision of what is perceived as eternal, classic visions into the future with his or her ‘Forever girl’.”
The concept of ‘Then to Now’ and culminating into Forever has definitely excited the designers. Malini Ramani who evolved from mixed and match to Mosaic said, “It’s a lovely concept where one gets to see the evolution of a designer over the decade.” Similar excitement was voiced by Varun Bahl and JJ Valaya who found the concept, “a decade of Indian fashion presented in a capsule.”
